Recently purchased my first John Lee Hooker album. One word describes it: Amazing! John Hooker’s acoustic playing is folky and subdued compared to electric guitar lead albums but still amazing none the less. If what I understand is correct this collection was recorded in ’59, issued in 1960 and again on vinyl in 2014. I know the vocals on older recordings can be a little muffled or drowned by the music but this recording is clear and Hooker’s voice is strong. I’m guessing this is 180g vinyl, it’s thick and heavy.
I recommend this album for sitting around on a hot day sipping whisky. A little sample of the album.
