Melancholia

If you suffer from insomnia like I do you understanding how time can pass you by as if you are in a fog and only observing it. I spend a lot of time reading when everyone else is sleeping and found Richard Baxter’s works and advice for overcoming the sadness that will sometimes accompany a particular long or bad case of insomnia helpful. In Baxter’s A Christian Directory you’ll find a wealth of biblical council worthy of your time and energy. Keep in mind that Baxter offers biblical council and advice, from a Pastor’s heart and it should be read with this in mind. He is not proclaiming dogmatically an answer for all that ails you, rather, he is giving advice using scripture…that is before “modern” psychology and psychiatry. His advice found on page 261 of the Soli Deo Gloria edition has been partially helpful, but I could not find it online, I’ll link a sermon he preached in its place.

Find the sermon HERE.
